Rotherham homeowners and others around the UK should make sure their boiler repairs company is reputable and that their engineers have the appropriate qualifications, or their lives could be put at risk.
A plumber who recently posed as a Gas Safe registered engineer to install and service a boiler that could have released carbon monoxide has just been handed a suspended sentence because he put his customers’ lives at risk, the Exeter Express & Echo reports.
Christian Winter, 35, completed work using an invented Gas Safe registration number and later admitted three charges of breaching gas regulations. Prior to this, he had been working as a self-employed plumber for 15 years, with clients all over the South Hams and Teignbridge regions. However, he has been out of work since the investigation took place.
Recorder Mr Martin Meeke, QC, told Winter at Exeter Crown Court: “An improperly installed and maintained boiler is capable of leaking carbon monoxide and there have been many cases in which deaths have resulted. You were a real danger to the public by your conduct.”
Always check the details of your chosen tradesman or boiler installation company so you know they’re reputable and above board.
You should also know the warning signs of a faulty boiler, which include soot or stains on or near the appliance, yellow or orange flames instead of blue and finding it hard to light a fire in the boiler. If you spot any or all of these signs, don’t hesitate to call out an expert in boiler repairs.
